Heritage Arts Services specializes in helping people tell their stories through oral history and family and community documentation.

Family history services
What do you know about your past? What do your children know? So often, people forget or don't know what their family was like just a generation or two back. We can train you and your organization on how to conduct an oral history project, or we can interview your older family members and provide you with digital recordings of the interviews to keep for your children and grandchildren.

Community Cultural Planning Services
Many communities can benefit from having a cultural plan that identifies historical, artistic, and cultural resources, and outlines how the community wants to highlight, support, and encourage these things and make them available to the public.

What are the cultural resources in your town or community? These can include museums, libraries, events, and historical sites. But they can also include people who carry on traditional cultural activities like blacksmithing, hand embroidery, traditional food preparation, old time dances and music, and much, much more. Heritage Arts Services can carry out a cultural resource inventory in your community, with the help of locals, and provide everything from suggestions to a complete cultural plan.

Folklife
We are experts in researching and presenting traditional culture--everything from quilting to knifemaking and beyond. We have worked with hundreds of people, documenting their traditions in photos, audio recordings, and more. We can conduct folklife research for you, or we can help you learn to do it yourself. We also assist communities in planning folklife programs and surveys.

Writing and Editing services
Does writing make you nervous? We can help you produce excellent written documents by proofreading and editing your manuscripts, or even writing them from scratch with your input. Family histories,  articles for popular publications, grant applications, scientific articles, or reports--we've done them all.
